The New Longevity Hype: What Peptides Can Really Do – and What They Cannot
Peptides are short chains of amino acids that act as signalling molecules in the body and are already used successfully in medicine. At the same time, more and more unapproved peptides such as BPC-157, TB-500 or MOTS-c are marketed in the biohacking and longevity scene with grand promises, even though robust human studies and reliable safety data are missing for many of them. Cosmetic peptides in skincare are a separate matter: in certain formulations they can be worthwhile, above all for moisture, barrier and fine lines, but they are no miracle cure. What matters is telling apart genuine evidence-based medicine, sensible cosmetics and hyped research chemicals.
