Dry Eyes - Causes, New Treatments and What Really Helps

Dry eyes usually do not come from „too few tears“ but from an unstable tear film – often caused by a dysfunction of the meibomian glands. Eye drops can relieve symptoms in the short term but frequently do not address the cause. Sleep, screen work, stress, environmental factors and hormonal changes play a larger role than many people think. Evidence-based measures include lid care, warm compresses, targeted treatments such as IPL and, in severe cases, autologous serum drops. Many widespread myths – blue-light filters or indiscriminate supplements, for instance – have only limited scientific grounding.
