Social Media Addiction - What It Does to Us – and What the Research Really Says
Social media is not an officially recognized addiction diagnosis, but problematic use can have real effects on sleep, mood and concentration. What matters is less the screen time than the degree of lost control and the way it is used. Short-video formats and variable reward systems reinforce impulsive behavior. Sleep problems and passive comparison in particular are linked to negative effects. At the same time social media can provide social support and access to information. The goal should not be radical abstinence but conscious control.
